The retractable bokken that reinvents katori swordplay
| THE PROJECT
The main challenge of the project was to develop a viable product in an environment that is very conservative of its traditions, where accessories have remained unchanged for centuries. Our approach was to meet the technical challenge of making a bokken (wooden sword) retractable, as the object would have to withstand numerous impacts during use.

By exploiting the folding system to the full, we obtain a retractable, multifunctional sword that will make life much more pleasant for practitioners, both in terms of transport and use. In fact, the Kusanagi bokken allows the user to configure it in different ways: as a short sword, a long sword or even a dagger. This development approach has resulted in an object that energizes the practice of this ancestral art, while remaining visually sober and respectful of the discipline's ethics.
